Juried Show: Identity: Who Are We Now?

Juried Art Show: Identity: Who Are We Now?

Who am I? Everyone wrestles with the issue of identity at various stages of their lives. This question has been of particular interest to women, as their roles at home and in society continue to change.  Are women defined by the way they look, the way others see them, what they do, for whom they care, what they produce, or the absence of production?  Is there such thing as “women’s work,” characteristically female products, services or interests?  The show exposes issues of personal identity from within the contexts of current personal histories—how do women see themselves? Some of the various identities can be seen through the eyes of the artists in this vibrant and thoughtful show.

Showing at the Fairfield Arts Council Gallery during Women’s History Month 2009, this exhibition consists of juried work from members of the Connecticut Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art. The juror, Laura Einstein is an independent curator, art historian, lecturer and the principal of LGE Fine Art Consulting.  She is also currently the curator at Fairfield Arts Council. The Opening Reception will be April 13, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show runs from March 13 to April 24, 2009 at the Fairfield Arts Council Gallery, 70 Sanford Street, Fairfield, CT. Gallery Hours are M-F 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. & Sat. 1p.m.– 4 p.m.
