WAGE ON! Women, Art, and Money
Ceres Gallery in Chelsea, New York City
January 31– February 25, 2017
This exhibition explores how women artists view the current economic climate and it’s impact on wages, identity, and lives of women both in and beyond the art world. With the emergence of big data and the digital humanities, we can now chart and interpret income inequality, disparities in both prices and sales of art by men and women, the rising cost of living, and global financial crises with ease. Yet, these statistics often miss women’s real experiences around money, and how financial realities impact women’s lives.
Artists may submit up to three pieces of work in any media per entry and may submit up to two separate entries. Video works are limited to two submissions. Works must be original (no giclées unless part of a larger collage) and not previously exhibited in a WCA exhibition or at Ceres gallery.
